About making beats

Some people make hip hop beats for fun or for their own music endeavors, while others actually make a living at it or at least a little extra money on the side. There are many ways that people make hip hop beats including: music production software, keyboard workstations, and other external hardware. Beat software has become a preferred method to many producers because it provides an all-in-one platform without having to record or sequence to an external source. Producers can then bounce their .wav or .mp3 files directly from the software.

There is a huge online market for selling beats. You will find many sites that offer a member account where producers can upload their beats and sell them, often with a commission split to the site owner. The number of these sites has grown drastically over the years offering hip hop producers many markets to sell their beats.

Reason 6

I am extremely excited about the release of Reason 6. As a user who is still stuck on Reason 4 to make hip hop beats, I have been itching to upgrade. I haven’t done the upgrade to 5 because of all the negative feedback I’ve gotten from other users. This new upgrade, however, looks like it is going to offer some really cool features and new sound modules.

I am considering purchasing the Balance interface which will come with a Reason 6 upgrade to current owners. The Balance is Propellerhead’s new interface that will work with Record (now part of Reason 6). Side note… I am so happy that they have integrated Record into Reason. As a Protools user, it’s kind of a pain to have to bounce wav files back and forth when making a beat. So, it will be nice to lay down my guitar/vocal tracks directly into Reason. Back to Balance… One great thing about the new interface is that it has a switch system on the front where you can toggle between inputs. This means that you can leave your guitar, microphone, and keyboard workstation all plugged in and just press a simple button to switch inputs.

I haven’t had the opportunity to try Record yet, even though it’s been offered as a separate program for some time now. I’m really just hoping that I can get by with the editing… once a Protools editor, always a Protools editor.
